Zak Martin-KilgourJune, 2010What brought you to the realization that you want to work in the health field?
Having gone through my own health crisis and then healing as a teenager I came to the realization earlier than most as to the horrible state of health care and treatment in industrialized culture. After having done my own exploration into what truly creates health naturally began to want to share my findings with those around me. This lead me to the study of various healing modalities.
hat obstacles have you found in considering yourself a success in this field?
Probably the natural obstacles most people encounter when seeking success in any field! Hurdles that I have encountered have been mainly things like developing self discipline, focus and persistence. When you develop these personality traits, success in any area of life becomes much easier!
What schooling or training have you completed?
- Full training as a reiki master with Barbara McKell
- Training in Intuitive healing
- Channeling with Lori Wilson of inner access 101
- Sound therapy training with various teachers including Jonathan Goldman
- Certified Biofeedback Specialist (for stress and pain management)
- Ongoing training in meditation, qi-gong and Chinese martial arts
- I'm also in the midst of training to be a certified herbalist
Does networking with others assist you in achieving your goals?
Absolutely. I've heard some people say it's the most important part of any business, at least until you're well established. With an online business I have found the best form of networking is through social media sites like facebook, twitter, youtube and even blogs. A large portion of my traffic is driven from these outlets.
Is there advice you would offer to someone starting on this path?
Even if your business is based on clients you meet in person, establishing a good web presence is a god investment for the long term when you might choose to create a product or write a book, you'll already have a fan-base built up who you can market too! Word of mouth occurs both online and in the real world, so getting on board with social media tools pays dividends in the long run.
What type of advertising has worked best for you? What has been your best resource for building a client base?
Once again I'll have to say social media! For an introduction to how important social media is becoming, even more so than any other type of advertising, check out "Crush It!" by Gary Vaynerchuck. People no longer look at billboards and bus stop ads. They're all looking down at their phones and texting! You have to follow where the eyeballs are going and that's in large part online. Even if your business is focused on a local level, this is the new form of advertising.
Where do you see yourself in a year? 5 years? Do you have any particular goals that you would like to achieve in the near future?
In one year I can see myself earning a full time income from my web business which includes both passive income (selling products) as well as active income (phone consultations). In five years time I see this flourishing more than ever before! I would also like to be more and more engaged in public speaking by that point. My immediate goals are to start doing speaking events in the local area on the topics that I currently write and make videos about.
